SUNRISE BEACH, Mo.—The William Woods University men's golf team displayed a dominating performance at the Missouri Intercollegiate Championship, as the Owls won its fourth consecutive title, after shooting an impressive 14-under par 562 (277-285).
The Owls finished 34-strokes ahead of second place Missouri Southern State (+20), while Lindenwood University and Missouri Western State tied for third (+25) and William Jewell College rounded out the top five (+26). The William Woods University "B" team finished in eighth place, after hitting a 34-over par 610 (308-302).
University of Kansas transfer
Stan Gautier (69-69) and returning NAIA All-American
David Houlding (67-71), tied for first place, after the duo shot their way to a 6-under par 138.
Reigning American Midwest Conference (AMC) Player of the Year and first team NAIA All-American senior,
Julian Taylor, collected a third place finish, after hitting his way to a 4-under par 140 (70-70).
Coming off earning the Phil Mickelson Award (Freshman of the Year) and being named to the NAIA All-American second team last year, sophomore
Billy McKenzie, finished in a tie for seventh place, as he turned in his scorecard with a 2-over par 146 (71-75). Freshman newcomer
Alasdair McDougall, rounded out the scoring for the Owls, as he totaled a 10-over par 154 (76-78) for 29
th place.
The WWU "B" team was led by newcomer
Will Rushworth, as the Harrogate, England, native, collected a top 20 finish in his debut with the Owls, after totaling a 7-over par 151 (78-73).
Rushworth was followed up by the duo of
Matt Wells (78-76) and
Jack Clarkson (81-73), as they finished in a tie for 29
th, after hitting a 10-over par 154.
Freshman
Mark Martin, shot his way to a 13-over par 157 (77-80) for 44
th place, while
Cruz Buchanan ended the Championship in a tie for 45
th, after scoring a 14-over par 158 (75-83).
The Owls return to action on September 15
th at the Central Methodist University Eagle Invitational in Boonville, Missouri.
