Paige Smith Becomes First Signing For WWU Women's Tennis

FULTON, Mo.—William Woods University head men's and women's tennis coach Lauren Meier has announced her first signing for the women's team in the upcoming 2015-16 season, as Paige Smith has signed on to join WWU.

"I'm excited to announce that Missouri native, Paige Smith, will be joining the Woods this coming fall," Meier said. "Paige is the first student-athlete from Missouri to sign and be admitted to William Woods. I am proud to say that she is a wonderful student and has a strong work ethic."

She added, "Paige has the type of attitude and pride that myself and WWU Athletics wants representing the men's and women's tennis programs. I am looking forward to working with her."

Smith, a Jefferson City, Missouri, native, is a four-year letter winner at Jefferson City High School, where she led the Jaybirds to three Final Four appearances (2012, 2013, 2013), three district and three sectional team championships.

Individually, Paige is a three-time state qualifier, three-time district champion and a three-time sectional champion, while earning co-captain honors for one season. Paige was also successful in the classroom, as she is a four-time Scholar-Athlete.

Since her sophomore year, Smith has been dominant on the courts in both doubles and singles action, as in doubles play, she holds a combined record of 65-20, while in singles play, she is 54-18.

She is the daughter of Rod and Lana Smith.
