KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The William Woods University women's golf team led all NAIA institutions with four 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete selections, it was announced by the league office today. Seniors
Jada Bennington (Beloit, Wis.) and
Elizabeth Welker (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) along with juniors
Lindsey Johnson (Springfield, Mo.) and
Naomi Starr (Springfield, Mo.) were recognized for their strong performances in the classroom.
Bennington and Welker are both repeat selections as NAIA Scholar-Athletes, with each earning the accolades in 2011. Johnson and Starr earn the honors in their first year of eligibility for selection.
The Owls were one of two teams earning four scholar-athlete selections with Campbellsville (Ky.) joining WWU atop the list. In addition to the four honorees from William Woods, the American Midwest Conference also saw Park's Plern Promboobpa (Rayong, Thailand) and Hannibal-LaGrange University's Michaela McClendon (Lee's Summit, Mo.) named to the list.
To be named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must have reached junior academic standing and must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. The team is assembled from nominations from head coaches throughout the association.
